PECAN PIE RECIPE
Pecan pie is a sweet custard pie made from pecan nuts (suggesting where it got its name) and corn syrup. In Southern United States cuisine, it is considered a specialty and is commonly served at holiday meals. The pie is regularly served along with whipped cream. It is believed that the pie was invented by the French when they settled in New Orleans and was introduced to pecan nuts by Native Americans. Due to this, pecan pie is often called “New Orleans Pecan Pie”.
Here are the directions to make a sweet pecan pie that leaves you begging for more.

- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 eggs
- 2 cups roasted pecan nuts
- 3 tablespoons flour

- 2 bowls
- Skewer
- Foil paper
- Pie pan
- Measuring cups
- Measuring spoons
- Spatula
- Whisk
- Small saucepan
- Rolling pin
- Paring knife
Directions:
Crust
To make the pie shell, mix salt, baking powder and flour together. Cut up shortening in the flour with two knifes until just lumps are formed. Mix with little water using a fork until the dough is formed. Place in the fridge for later use.
Filling
- Put the butter in small saucepan over medium heat and melt until all the butter has been liquefied.
- Put white corn syrup, brown sugar, salt melted butter and vanilla in one of the bowls and mix together.
- Slightly whisk the eggs in another bowl.
- Pour the eggs into the batter and mix until it looks like it did before you added the eggs.
- Remove the pie dough from the refrigerator and roll it out completely with your rolling pin, about 1/8 inch thick.
- Dust some flour onto the rolling pin then wrap the flattened pie dough around the rolling pin.
- Unroll the dough onto the pie pan. Use paring knife to trim by cutting off the excess edges around the pie pan. Trim so that the crust will hang 1 inch around the pan.
- Next you need to decorate the pie edge. Pinch the dough right around the pan to create a wavy design. This will determine how well presented your pie will look when complete.
- Pour the batter into your now decorated pie shell.
- Sprinkle the 2 cups of roasted pecans on the top of the pie filling.
- Place in the preheated oven at 350F to bake.
- After thirty minutes have passed, remove the pie from the oven and put strips of foil paper around the edges of the crust to prevent it from burning.
- Replace in the oven and bake for about 35 minutes.
- When 35 minutes pass, check your pie by inserting skewer into the centre. If it comes out clean, the pie is baked; if not return to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes.
